It is partly Muscular and partly glandular, with ducts opening into the prostatic portion of the urethra. It is divided into 5 different lobes such as the anterior, 2 lateral, median and a posterior lobe. It is situated in the pelvic cavity and consists of an apex, an anterior, posterior and two lateral surfaces.

Functioning
One of the prostate's main duties is to secrete the seminal fluid, which mixes with and carries sperm out of the penis during ejaculation.
The prostate also helps to pump the semen and sperm with sufficient power out of a man's body.
The prostate plays an important part in controlling the flow of urine. The prostate wraps itself around the urethra as it passes from the bladder to the penis. Muscular fibers in the prostate contract to slow the flow of urine.
